Founder and President
Matthew Barben
Matthew Barben currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors for The Irons Foundation. Matthew joined the fire department in 1990 when he was sixteen. He comes from a family of firefighters, including his father, three uncles, and four cousins. Matt is the former Fire Chief of the Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company, received both Firefighter and EMS Provider of the Year, and was inducted into the Haford-Cecil's Fireman Hall of Fame in 2023. He has been an employee of the county government for over twenty-five years and is currently a supervisor in the Highways Department.

Secretary
Thomas G. Schaech
Tom Schaech currently serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors for The Irons Foundation. Tom is a fire and EMS veteran of nearly 50 years, including Past Fire Chief of Department for the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company and Retired Fire Captain for the Baltimore County Fire Department. Chief Schaech is also past President of the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association, past co-chair of the Baltimore Metropolitan Fire Chief’s Council, and is an inductee to both the Harford-Cecil Fireman’s and Maryland State Fireman’s Association Hall of Fame. Chief Schaech continues his service to the community as a member of the Harford County Fire and EMS Honor Guard and by supporting other Harford County initiatives.

Wellness Program Director
Marianna Adams
LCSW-C, MSEM, NRP, CCISM
​Marianna is a licensed LMSW, a First Responder Crisis Therapist, a Peer Support Specialist, and a certified in Critical Incident Stress Management. Her education includes a Dual Master’s Degree in Social Work and Emergency Management. Marianna has also been a Paramedic for over 10 years. Currently she provides mental health therapy at an inpatient recovery center for first responders.

Co-Founder and Vice President
Marcia Barben BS, NRP
Marcia Barben, the co-founder of The Irons Foundation, currently serves as its Vice President on the Board of Directors. Marcia has been involved in Emergency Services since 1995 as a Paramedic/Firefighter. Marcia has held the positions of Fire and EMS Lieutenant, was awarded with EMS Provider Year, and received the Chief's Lifesaving Award in 2011 and 2013. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Public Safety Administration with a minor in Emergency Management. She currently is a Hazard Mitigation Planner in the State of Maryland.

Treasurer
Jeffrey Sexton, Jr.
Jeffrey Sexton started his emergency services career at the age of 16 when he joined the Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Department as a cadet. Since that time, he has served on the Board of Directors and currently holds the position of Battalion Chief. Jeffery holds dual associate degrees in Fire Science Technology and Paramedicine and is currently pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Public Safety Administration. Jeff is an EMS Lieutenant and Acting Fire Captain with the BWI Airport Fire & Rescue Department and an instructor at the Anne Arundel Fire Department Training Academy.
